K.J. Matthews is an accomplished Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist.
For more than a decade, she successfully shaped CNN’s media, entertainment, and documentary coverage. She developed, produced, wrote and reported for all CNN platforms. She was the driving force behind some of the most watched segments and specials on CNN, CNN International, HLN and CNN Digital. She was also the force behind the network’s coverage of major entertainment events including the Academy Awards, the Grammys, The Golden Globes and the Cannes Film Festival. Many of her entertainment stories, documentaries, and primetime TV specials appeared on AC360, The Situation Room, CNN Newsroom, and Erin Burnett’s Out Front. She was part of a CNN team that won a Peabody for the network’s breaking news coverage.
Before leading CNN’s coverage, her work was seen on ABC-TV, CBS-TV, and FOX-TV affiliates across the country as well as the Emmy Award-winning syndicated series, EXTRA
Currently, her entertainment reports are seen and heard on BBC TV, BBC World Service Radio, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Scotland, Germany’s DW English TV Network, and the UK’s Times Radio.
In addition to her journalistic work for these multiple international media outlets, she’s also part of the distinguished Golden Globe Awards, voting for the nominees and winners of the annual awards show. She’s led events for the Golden Globes at the
Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival over the years, and regularly sits on juries for film festivals.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA as well as a Master of Arts degree from New York University
