The Name I Choose

This historical fiction is base in 19th century Spain about a 15-year-old girl, Amalia, who is uprooted from the only life she’s ever known and thrust into the servitude of a cruel, unethical nobleman. It doesn’t take long for Amalia to realize her master has other intentions for her than housekeeping. Forced to flee for her safety, she travels to the small island of Menorca in the Balearic Sea only to find the suppressive, patriarchal hierarchy is inescapable. After suffering repeated abuse at the hands of men, and the women who struggled desperately to find their own power in a male-dominant world, Amalia starts to believe she deserves to be the lowest in society. When she’s given the chance out of her circumstances at the hands of yet another man, can she find the courage to trust one more time and accept his offer of freedom and protection?
