Description

Anne Angelo continues to share her life story in The Forbidden Zone 1940. This book demonstrates how inexorably lives are shaped and directed by the circumstances of birth and the environment in which one’s formative years is spent. With the German occupation established, civilian life in France was initially encouraged to return to normal. Anne could not get back to England and she saw no point in staying in Brittany, so she returned to her home in Lille, an area in the north of France, which Adolf Hitler had decreed, was to be cordoned off. The oppressive actions of the Germans led Anne to join the French Resistance, helping those British servicemen to escape. But when the Gestapo found out about her, it was inevitable she would be betrayed. She was forced to flee to the only place where she could be sure enemy agents could not reach her — her father’s house in the Scottish Highlands.
