Mark Coker founded Smashwords in 2008 to make it fast, free and easy for any writer, anywhere in the world, to self-publish an ebook.

In 2022, Smashwords merged with Draft2Digital to create the world’s largest distributor of indie ebooks, representing more than 300,000 authors and independent presses from around the world who collectively publish, manage, and distribute over 1 million titles with Draft2Digital.  With Draft2Digital, Mark now serves as Chief Strategy Officer and board member.

Mark has authored three books on ebook publishing best practices, hosts the popular SMART AUTHOR podcast, and is a former contributing writer for Publishers Weekly and The Huffington Post.  In his spare time, Mark reads and writes short science fiction.
