This Is Panther Country is the underdog story of the Babylon High School Panthers basketball team as they fight to win the first-ever Long Island Championship. The story is written from the point of view of the author as he follows the team while growing up in a close-knit Irish American family struggling to balance school, friends, and the newly discovered world of teenage society. It’s an era when race and class divisions were very real, but bridged by athletics and community purpose. Led by a visionary coach and star player, the Panthers confront adversity on and off the court but each obstacle overcome brings them closer to that elusive title.
