Description
THE QUEEN SPEAKS CREOLE is set on the island of Haiti and is the story of Queen Marie Louise who is waiting for King Christophe to attend the ball in her honor. Frustrated by the time he is taking, the queen calls several of her maid servants to entertain her. Unfortunately, nothing seems to work, and it is left to her chief maiden to save the day. Retrieving the Empress’s crown from a room in the palace, she places it on the queen’s head. Delighted by this act of wearing her grandmother’s crown, the queen then reads a note in Creole, impressing the king so much that he declares that the language will, from that day forth, be the official language of Haiti.
