It is the early Eighties with everyone from the Guerilla Girls to Lou Reed walking the cobblestone streets of Soho. Resident Sigourney Madigan has worked many jobs since her departure from Pawscatawny Pennsylvania. Her last job, with the Due Diligence Detective Agency, has ended. Having inherited audio and video equipment from Danny Devlin, she decides to open her own detective agency.
Sig’s friend brings her the first client, Jessica Palmer, an uptight administrator of a psychological research and training institute far from the flamboyances of Soho. Jessica is being blackmailed. Someone has a copy of a pornographic videotape she made with her married boss, Pierre Altman. Sig goes undercover as a video person at the Center for Rational Therapy to find the culprit. Sig deduces Altman is likely the blackmailer. Sig is galvanized by Altman’s consistent lascivious behavior with his staff. That deduction proves incorrect when Altman is murdered in his home, and the blackmail continues.
